This blog is a travel back in time to a China, which does not any longer exist. Though the pictures are less than 25 years old, some even not yet ten years, and yet they show a world this is gone by now by large.
A lot was already lost at that time, destruction of old buildings and neighborhoods was a regular part of life in cities like Shanghai or Beijing.
My first trip to China was in fall 1993 for six weeks – mainly work, but sufficient time at the weekends to explore Beijing. The next stay was in spring 1994 – still work. And the desire to come back for a longer time developed.
In 1995, 1998 and 1999 I went for leisure trips: The first with a friend in anorganized tour, the second alone as an individual traveller.
In 1999 was also a business trip to visit my future work place. In spring 2000 in moved to Shanghai, in spring 2002 to Beijing, where I stayed until January 2004.
My last trip was in 2007 to visit a friend in Shanghai and travel to Ningxia.
I invite you to join me on this travel back in time – I let the pictures speak. As the Chinese say: “A picture is worth more than 1000 words.”
